SUSTAINABILITY

Sound Environmental Practices
The Crested Crane Bwindi Hotel is committed to preserving natural resources and providing quality vacation experiences for its guests while working to minimize the environmental and social impacts associated with operations.

Staff Awareness
Team members participate in workshops and seminars conducted by the environmental committee, local government organizations in Bwindi conservation community center, and also by non-governmental environmental organizations.

Water Conservation Program
Monitoring of total water use on properties (guestrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, and garden areas) are consistently conducted.

Energy Management Program
Use of timers on electrical equipment such as outdoor lighting for walkways, and refrigeration equipment in the kitchens, helps to save energy automatically.

Waste Management Program
Waste disposal practices and procedures at The Crested Crane Bwindi Hotel such as the recycling of linen and bedspreads, food, office paper, and packages, is part of a normal work-day practice.

Help us protect the environment.
Lower water and energy consumption means greener hotels.
We encourage our guests to eliminate single-use plastics like cups, straws, and cutlery.
Our future plan is to eliminate single-use toiletries like small bottles of soap and shampoo.
Our guests are encouraged to use towels for more than one day before we wash them to reduce use of detergents that pollutes our water.

Control of Hazardous Substances
The Crested Crane Bwindi Hotel determines suitability of all product before any purchase is made and provides full training for staff whenever new chemicals or equipment are purchased for use in the hotel.

Social & Cultural Development
In support of local culture and development, The Crested Crane Bwindi Hotel promotes and sells local tours and attractions with special recognition of “Gorilla trekking, Walks of nature, Batwa Trail, and Batwa experience” at its tour desks. The Crested Crane Bwindi Hotel invites local cultural dances to its facility to display and sell their performance and deep culture drama of the Kigezi highlanders appreciated by guests.

The Final Straw
At the Crested Crane Bwindi Hotel, we continue to promote programs which focus on the betterment of the environment, education, and the community as its contribution to sustainable development in a fragile environment.
Giving back to community, we support local farmers. We purchase food and ingredients used in kitchen from local farmers and women groups, Uganda tea grown by communities from all regions of Uganda (Kayonza tea from the Kigezi Highlands region processed by Kayonza tea factory), fish from Lake Victoria.
